Black Rails in Action!

Every birder holds their breath for a chance to see a rare rail, and I love coming across stories of those who “won the bird lottery.” This album below was especially inspiring and basically makes me want to live at the meadows; click through for the photographer’s story in the captions! The photos were taken in late June.

Target Acquired -- Detail

To be clear, I don’t like stories that involve harassing birds. So, I don’t exactly find it admirable when people tromp through marshes to harass birds with playback while they’re on breeding territory. The “happening upon” stories, though, are truly amazing to me! Here’s another photo of a bird that was pushed out into the open by a rising tide: http://www.avesphoto.com/website/NA/species/RAIBLK-2.htm
